 Carlos Giffoni - Bio
Carlos Giffoni is a Venezuelan artist who resides in the New York City area, applying erroneous feedback synthesis systems, modular manipulation, rewired electronic instruments, and live re-sampling to the composition of electronic music pieces, as well as improvising live with local and international musicians; He is currently applying digital technologies to create interactive environments that combine sound and visuals, computer vision, an algorithmic composition at Parsons School of Design.
In the last two years Carlos has performed live with a variety of renown musicians that include Jim O'Rourke, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Nels Cline, Chris Corsano, Puerto Rico's Jorge Castro (Cornucopia), and Canada's Nihilist Spasm Band. In Japan, during a tour in August of 2002 with Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro,C.C.C.C.) Solmania, and Morioka's jazz guitarist Noizu. In his recent tour of Europe in 2003, Carlos collaborated live with minimalist guitar player Manuel Mota and double bassist Margarida Garcia in Lisboa, as well as with Norway electronic musician Lasse Marhaug, and during the No Fun Fest this year with Dylan Noukys, as well as an ear pounding trio with Peter Rehberg and Massimo took place.
With Monotract, since 1998, Carlos has toured the US 3 times and Japan once, while contributing in the recording of 3 7", one full length CD and the recently released full length LP 'Pagu' which consists of the arrangement of thousands of samples produced by a variety of electronic equipment into song format. Other recent releases include Old Bombs 'Audios'(Old Bombs is an ongoing collaboration with Schematic's Dino Felipe and fukktron's Vanessa Payes) and a live CD with Jim O'Rourke and Lee Ranaldo on the Antiopic label.
In New York, Carlos recently presented one of his sound pieces at the New York avant garde club Tonic, participated in the CMJ music festival, and presented an improvised piece using radio signal as a source for multiple modular manipulation at the NY media for the arts center in Long Island city. He is also part of the new sound/new york festival in 2004, which will take place at the kitchen in Manhattan during the month of April and includes performances by Ikue Mori, Zeena Parkins, and Phillip Glass among others. He is also the main curator and organizer of the now infamously legendary No Fun Fest, a 3 day event of sonic madness taking place once a year in Brooklyn.
